Strategy or action? Well, both of course but have you ever felt that getting results seems more difficult than devising the perfect plan? My strength is creating a deliverable strategy, and then carrying it out. I’m adept at recognising the ideas that can take you forward (and those that will divert energy and focus – good ideas maybe, but possibly ones that have yet to ripen). And while I believe ideas matter, outcomes matter more!
Regeneration and growth
At Barnet, I set up and led their housing estate regeneration programme in 2000 – then very much a model for what has now become commonplace elsewhere.
Stonegrove and Spur Road
Beginning with the Stonegrove and Spur Road estate (now called Academy Court) in Edgware, north-west London, I put together a regeneration programme to replace 3,000 council homes in poor condition and in poor environments, with 7,000 mixed tenure homes in new communities. I have managed the second busiest LPA in London (Barnet), and submitted and secured consents on major planning applications, often in the trickiest planning policy environments. Here are two good examples of my planning work.
The Hyde, Hendon
NEAT Developments approached me in 2015 when they were struggling to get traction with Barnet planners over a tired Homebase store in The Hyde, Hendon. I helped NEAT secure a Consent for 415 homes, but the high affordable-housing requirement from Brent made it only marginally viable. So, working with the NEAT team I secured an increased content of 501 homes in 2020. More…
